ABC announced today that it's given a straight-to-series order to a new spin-off, which will take place at a Seattle firehouse presumably not too far from Seattle Grace.
The as-yet-untitled show centers on a heroic group of firefighters and will begin life as a "planted spinoff," meaning that a future Grey's episode will introduce the firehouse and the new show's central characters. Grey's showrunner Stacy McKee will oversee the new show, with Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers executive-producing.
“No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda," ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said (no lies detected here!). "Grey’s’ signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff."
