"The View" continued speaking about Sunday night's Oscars incident with Will Smith and Chris Rock on Tuesday morning, after Will Smith's apology on Monday night.

In the segment, moderator Whoopi Goldberg (who is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Board of Governors) said that while she accepts Smith's apology, "there are consequences. There are big consequences because nobody is OK with what happened. Nobody, nobody, nobody. What’s happening is people are now starting to calm down and say Wait a minute, what could have triggered this? Could have been the four years ago, could have been anything."

She also added that she supported producer Will Packer's decision not to ask Smith to leave during the event.

In terms of consequences, she said that doesn't support taking his Oscar or "cancelling him", while adding that she can't say too much in terms of what she knows about the inside story of the Oscars response, since she's a part of the board.

Whoopi also added that one of the reasons producers did not eject Smith from the show is “because that would have been another 15, 20 minute-explanation about why we’re taking the Black man out five seconds before they’re about to decide whether he’s won an Oscar or not.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin added that while all the attention is on Smith, that "we need to also talk about Chris Rock, because what's been playing over and over again is his assault. We have to keep in mind because he was the victim here." Whoopi agreed, adding, “but let’s also know that everything that needed to happen that evening, happened. Chris took care of business. And he is the adult who said, ‘You know what, I get it and I’m going to let this do what this needs to do.'”
