There has been plenty of discussion as to whether you should wear a mask to cover your face when doing essential tasks in public.
The consensus today seems clear: it can't hurt to wear one.
Many of the professional grade masks (the coveted "N95" masks) are reserved for the front line health care workers because it gives them good protection from the COVID19 patients they deal with on a daily basis. So let's do our part by making our own, which is good for doing essential tasks like going to the grocery store.
It's super simple to make one, actually. There's a Japanese tutorial that will work with items in your own home!
The tutorial from DIY blog Japanese Creations:
Materials:
- Handkerchief (A regular cotton handkerchief of 18" x 18" is used in this tutorial.)
- 2 hair ties
Steps:
- Place the handkerchief face down.
- Fold the top to the center.
- Fold the bottom to the center.
- Flip over.

You have a pleated face mask!
