In the wake of Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s television and movie assets, the company announced a major plan — to cancel about 300 projects in development (most which were in development with Fox that they acquired), including many high profile adaptations.
The acquisition of Fox hasn’t gone that great yet, as the company inherited a “$170 million operating loss “ from their film department, especially after recent flop, “X-Men: Dark Phoenix.”
In a recent interview, Disney CEO Bob Iger said, "One of the biggest issues we faced in the quarter was the performance of the Fox film business. It was well below what it had been and well below what we thought it would be when we did the acquisition."
Naturally, with that, they're going to take a look at many of the projects in development and make cuts. And make cuts they did.
Several of the films canceled are video game or franchise properties, including “Assassin’s Creed 2”, “Mega Man”, “The Sims”, “Hitman 2”, and “Magic: The Gathering.”
