Now that 2019 is already half over, it's time to look at the top movies of the year so far in terms of box office. What is most striking about this list is that nearly the entire top 10 is unoriginal movies. Not to say that any are bad, but "Us" is the only non-sequel or non-remake or non-franchise movie in the entire top 10, which is kind of crazy, don't you think?
It's been a bit of a rough year for a lot of movies though, especially for companies that aren't Disney. Many films that were also expected to do well have fared disappointingly (Men in Black, Secret Life of Pets, Dumbo, Dark Phoenix). It appears there IS a bit of franchise fatigue, but not if you're a Marvel character!
