The Sterling Apartment Homes is home to many young college students, adults and kids of all ages around Philadelphia... including me.
I literally moved out of the Sterling less than 2 months ago, leaving behind about 7 of my closest friends who chose to extend their leases and continue living in the community building because it's a very prime, convenient and nice location to live in Center City.
So to my surprise when my Citizen App alerts went off at around 2pm yesterday (It's a great public safety app, you should get It) saying there was an active shooter in the building and police were blocking off JFK Blvd... naturally my heart sank and I felt immediately ill.
My best friend is a nurse and was home at the Sterling yesterday & said she was getting off the elevator when Police stormed the lobby to try and contain a shooter who barricaded himself off into his apartment on the 18th floor.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer,
A man in his 30s is dead after police believe he fired a gunshot out the window of a high-rise Center City apartment building Tuesday and then fatally shot himself in the head.
