"Roseanne" returned to television after more than 10 years to a premiere of more than 25 Million viewers. But following a racist twitter rant by the series star, Roseanne Barr, ABC has cancelled the "Roseanne" reboot and stopped production for season 2 of the show.
ABC Entertainment President, Channing Dungey said in a statement: "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show."
Disney CEO Bob Iger added on Twitter that "There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing."

Barr's offensive Twitter rant started when she commented on Valerie Jarrett, a former adviser to the Obama administration. In a since deleted tweet, Barr wrote that Jarrett, an African-American, was a product of the Muslim Brotherhood and "Planet of the Apes":
"muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj."
The tweet sparked controversy including responses from fellow cast members, producers, ABC and Disney.
When a another Twitter user told Barr that her tweet was racist, Barr responded by writing: “Muslims r NOT a race.”
Standing her ground, Barr posted another racist tweet just minutes later.
“ISLAM is not a RACE, lefties. Islam includes EVERY RACE of people.”
Barr did pen an apology noting that her tweets were a 'joke in bad taste' but the network would not tolerate her behavior canceling the show.
"I apologize. I am now leaving Twitter."
“I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me – my joke was in bad taste.” But it was too late.
Barr also tweeted about Chelsea Clinton referring to her as “Chelsea Soros Clinton.” That is a reference to George Soros, the billionaire who has helped fund progressive causes.
Clinton responded “Good morning Roseanne – my given middle name is Victoria. I imagine George Soros’s nephews are lovely people. I’m just not married to one. I am grateful for the important work @OpenSociety does in the world. Have a great day!”
Again, Roseanne apologized... but not really:
"Sorry to have tweeted incorrect info about you!I Please forgive me! By the way, George Soros is a nazi who turned in his fellow Jews 2 be murdered in German concentration camps & stole their wealth-were you aware of that? But, we all make mistakes, right Chelsea?"
Original "Roseanne" cast member and star of the daytime talk show, "The Talk," is also an executive producer on the show. Following Roseanne's tweets, Sara tweeted:
"Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least."
Following the news of "Roseanne's" cancelation, Gilbert responded:
"This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love— one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member."
Upon seeing Barr's initial Tweet, comedian Wanda Sykes, publicly quit the show via Twitter in response to Barr's comments. Sykes was a consulting producer on the "Roseanne" reboot.
"I will not be returning to @RoseanneOnABC."
