Free Streets is Back in Philly for 2018...and Bigger Than Ever!

This is one of the coolest things Philly does, and it all started with the Pope!  Back when Pope Francis was here, basically the whole city shut down for safety measures, that means no cars anywhere, bridges shut down, etc.  And people LOVED It!  Think about it, walking down the middle of the Ben Franklin Bridge?  IT WAS AWESOME!  Some people started a petition and the mayor went for it!  So now, it's become an annual event!

Our friends at NBC10 have the breakdown:

Philly Free Streets, fast becoming an annual event, is returning in August for the third year, Mayor Jim Kenney announced Friday. The event that closes some portions of city streets to cars and allows for pedestrian and bicycle use only will be held 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 11.

The route this year is eight miles of North Broad Street from City Hall to Erie Avenue in North Philadelphia.
