It's Official: Apple Is Killing Off iTunes

Well, it was highly rumored all weekend that they were gonna do it — and they did it. Apple officially announced today at their WWDC conference that iTunes is officially dead. The company announced its going to phase out the 17 year old media application with the intro of OS X 10.15, which is expected to come out in September (with the new iPhone.)

Apple announced that the strategy here is killing off iTunes and replacing it with “3 dedicated apps for media, including a desktop app for podcast, an Apple TV app for its TV and movie content as well as its upcoming video subscription service, and a music app to access both the company’s Apple Music subscription service as well as local music libraries.” It appears that you should still be able to *buy* music on the Music app like you do right now.
