Lucy The Elephant In Margate is Temporarily Closing

A Jersey Shore staple is getting ready to close its doors! Lucy the Elephant is set to undergo an extensive restoration project later this year.

The massive & by massive I mean 6-story tall elephant will have it's entire metal skin replaced starting on September 20th. It is reported that more than 50% of Lucy's skin was deteriorated beyond repair.

The price tag is $1.4 million. The funding is coming from a grant from the Preserve NJ Preservation Fund. Additional finds will come from donations and fundraising.

Lucy the Elephant was born in the 1880s, and saved from demolition in 1970. The roadside attraction now offers daily tours. The gift shop is expected to stay open.
