Such a heartbreaking story — an American man died on Thursday while proposing to his girlfriend underwater while they were on vacation in Tanzania.
They were at an island resort off the east coast of Africa late last week when Steve Weber drowned while asking Kenesha Antoine to marry him. Kenesha shared the news on her Facebook page, writing that he “never emerged from those depths.” She posted the video of the proposal on social media as well (see below.)
The proposal ended with, “I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you but everything I love about you I love more every day.” He then flipped his note around, reading, “Will you please be my wife. Marry me?”
He then showed a ring, before swimming out of view of the camera.
It’s not exactly clear what transpired after the video. Steve Weber’s sister said her family didn’t have any answers yet on what exactly led to her brother’s death, hoping that Kenesha has some that can fill in the blanks. His sister added that his body wasn’t immediately recovered from the water, but Kenesha was able to flag down some boaters, who helped get his body out of the water. An autopsy will be performed before Weber’s body comes back to the U.S.
