Major Retailer Announces It's Shutting Down 200 Stores Nationwide

More sad news for retailers — Walgreens announced this week it’s shutting down 200 locations across the country in a plan to cut costs. Just two years ago, the company was expanding its footprint when it bought about half of Rite Aid’s stores. It increased to 9,500 locations nationwide, so this plan represents about a loss of less than 3% of their stores.

Walgreens says the closures will cause “minimal disruption to customers and patients” and that the company will find jobs for those employees that are affected. They didn’t provide a list of the exact 200 stores that will be closing.
