Why It Is SO Important To Clear Off Your Cars!!

The day following snow storm Stella, April Reneé of Philadelphia was driving when our worst nightmare happened!

Although she waited until the snow stopped, roads were clear, cleaned off her car, and followed the speed limit, someone else's negligence in cleaning the snow off of their car almost cost April her life! Hopefully, April's story will serve as an IMPORTANT reminder to clean off your vehicles of snow and ice before you hit the roads. See the photos and read her story below:

"Let me tell you a little story about why it's so important to clean the ice off the top of your car.

This happened to me this morning. Driving 60mph on US Route 1 (edit: just to clear any confusion- this was on the SUPER HIGHWAY) on my way to work, "safely" a solid 3 car distance from the Chevy Tahoe in front of me, a huge sheet of ice flew off the top of their SUV and shattered my windshield. Of course, I was not able to swerve into the right lane due to other cars and an 18 wheeler and the thought of my having to attempt that, hoping for the best, terrifies me.

You'd think at that point that the driver would notice and pull over, because you have to hear a sheet of ice sliding off your car..right? She didn't. So it goes without saying that while I was on the phone with 911, I'm driving behind her looking out a small portion of the window I can still see out of, holding down my horn and trying to wave her down. She finally pulls off an exit, I think she's noticed, still beeping and waving out the window, she keeps driving through Langhorne. Catching a red light and sobbing on the phone with 911, I get out of my car and confront her. She looks me dead in the eyes and drives away. Fortunately, I was able to relate her license plate number to 911 and they were able to pull her information.

The inside of my car is full of shards of glass and I thank God that I was wearing sunglasses. Glass in my hand, I was bleeding though minimal. Glass is still crumbling into my car. I'm a wreck. Hysterical, actually. The windshield was pressed far enough in that I feel so lucky it didn't break through my windshield completely. Potentially taking my life.

The fact that ANYONE could drive off after something like this just blows my mind. And to the girl who hit me, I can't wait to see the number of citations that come your way (as promised by the cop who helped me) and I pray to God you feel sick inside.

Clean your cars off." -- April Reneé via Facebook
