9 things American women weren't allowed to do in 1971

Living in a #TimesUp era helps us shed light on inconsistencies between Men and Women in American society. It's hard to believe the laws/rules below stood in place for Women until as recent as the 1970's.

According to Snopes, here's what women weren't allowed to do in 1971...

  • Get a credit card in her name. In 1974, a law FORCED credit card companies to issues cards to women without their husband's signature.
  • Get pregnant without being fired. In 1978, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act
  • Get an Ivy League education. Dartmouth and Columbia started admitting women in 1971, not Harvard until 1977.
